Beyond the Satire Note: Could Joseph Smith become God when he grew up even if he wanted to? Do Latter-Day Saints believe that men can become Gods? https://www.mrm.org/become-a-god
Sharon Vermont – It turns out that LDS prophet Joseph Smith never wanted to be a prophet while growing up. Little Joseph Smith had even higher aspirations than big Joseph Smith.
“So, buddy, what do you want to do with your life?” Joseph Smith Sr. asked his seven-year-old son, Joseph Smith Jr.
“When I am big, I want to be God when I grow up.” Joseph Smith Jr. told an appalled Joseph Smith Sr. “Being a firefighter or a teacher is boring. Yuck!”
“That’s ahh, really nice, honey.” Lucy Smith said in her most unconvincing mother voice. “But why don’t you stick to your dream of being an Egyptologist, okay?”
At publishing time, Joseph Smith Sr. was wondering whether it was a good idea to deter Joseph Jr. from wanting to be an elephant when he grows up after all.
